SECOND-RATE

SPOILERS DOWN THE PATH; THE DISCUSSION BELOW WILL NOT BE COMPREHENSIVE WITHOUT IT.

TREAD CAREFULLY. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.

Surprises could hit you in a good or in a very, very bad way. 2009's recount of the star attraction mutant's origin is one of the most disastrous entries in superhero film history!

Right off, this film is cheap in every sense of the word. Half-baked motivations, bootless fast-forwarded actions, egregious editing that chops back & forth, here & there and Holy God, the visual effects! Terrible green screens & even worse computer graphics! It hurts the eyes to watch these in a big-budgeted superhero flick!

Well, what's the worst? The story & screenplay. First of all, the makers are producing an origin story. It deliberately tries hard to link itself to the original trilogy. What for? All you can think of when you're watching these scenes is, are these the best the screenwriters could provide to tell the tale of one of the most beloved onscreen personas?

  • Who in their right mind would randomly block a bridge & pick a fight for no reasons?

  • Africa being referred to as a country?

  • Gambit (Taylor Kitsch) owns a flight?

  • Stryker (Danny Huston) controls the worst live-action incarnation of Deadpool (Scott Adkins & Ryan Reynolds) through a computer?

  • Film camera as CCTV?

  • What is Stryker's clouded goal here? Why would he make Logan (Hugh Jackman) strong when his sole intention is to kill all the mutants eventually?

  • Boxing match with The Blob (Kevin Durand)?

  • What's the point of Gambit in this story?

  • How did Kayla (Linn Collins) & Logan meet? He travels across states, meets a girl & lives with her? No wonder audiences did not feel anything when the girlfriend dies.

  • Wolverine chooses to unrelatedly climb on top of a cooling tower for the climax fight?

  • Why would the protagonist come back to save Kayla? How & why the doltish sudden entrance?

  • Why would Victor (Live Schreiber) join Logan to combat against Weapon XL?

  • Characters know when & where to exactly meet each other by an absolute randomness?

  • Stryker murders the General, just like that?

  • Gambit intervenes Wolverine so that the plot would allow Victor to conveniently escape?

  • Stryker knows how to erase Logan's memories? So, now what? He is a doctor?

If there are at all anything noteworthy, those would be the beginning credits style, the process that metamorphoses Wolverine into an Adamantium animal & the way the shocking appearance of Kayla is filmed & edited for the climax. The only reason to not skip this movie is because it ties up with the past & future films.
