Over the Moon is probably the greatest graphical showcase Netflix has gifted us at the time of its release! My God are the visual effects beyond beautiful! Character movements are fluid and the Chinese aesthetic that envelopes it all makes it even more perfect! Overall, the quality is really high!

The story revolves around Fei Fei (voiced by Cathy Ang) and her parents who own a mooncake bakery. She's fed the stories of Chang-e (voiced by Phillipa Soo) by her mother, who is essentially the Goddess who lives on the moon after the separation from her one-true love Houyi (voiced by Conrad Ricamora). Fei Fei believes this mythic tale wholeheartedly even after her mother passes away. There's comes a junction in the plot where her father finds a new partner, and she just couldn't accept it. To prove to her father that Chang-e exists, Fei Fei builds a rocket to the moon, and this is where all the willing suspension of disbelief is tossed out of the air. Over the Moon demands you to swallow a large pill of disbelief credit for the story to work this point forward which is frankly undoable. Adding atop new characters like Gobi (voiced by Ken Jeong) popping out of nowhere and the Lunarians who look like half-baked draft ideas, the movie's asking too much to make it sail as a whole. Chin's (voiced by Robert G. Chiu) ping-pong match with Chang-e, Fei Fei's space frog and Chang-e reuniting with the memory of Houyi in the reformed forest are entertaining at least.

The musical aspect of the film is nice at first, but as the runtime goes the numbers became way too many. On the technical side, like aforementioned, there's little to no flaws. Scene transitions are as seamless as it can be! Animated beings like pet rabbit Bungee, Chin and his pet frog, space lions, Lunarians, Palace Security or even the village, grass field, Moon Kingdom, moon shower, the mooncakes, heck even all the dishes look absolutely sumptuous!
